Practice Teams

The Swim Team is divided into two training groups: Gold, and Gulf/ Senior. Each group has a clearly defined set of objectives. All of the groups begin practices together at 5:30pm. The goal for each swimmer is to learn the skills to move to the next group.

Gold -

This group is comprised of swimmers ages 8-13 and can perform at least three of the four competitive strokes. Emphasis is on stroke mechanics, sportsmanship, and the rules of competitive swimming. This group begins to learn basic training techniques for speed and endurance. This group continues to use both dry land and water training. Swimmers in this group begin attending local swim meets. Practices are offered Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Swimmers can swim as many days as they like but we would recommend a minimum of three days per week.

Gulf/ Senior -

This group is comprised of swimmers at the highest ability level ages 13 to college. This group maximizes mental, physical, and team building skills. Goal setting and race strategies are developed in this group. Endurance, speed, and perfection of stroke technique are expected at this level. Total commitment to all aspects of swimming is expected in this group. Swimmers in this group are striving to contend at state, national, and international competitions. Practices are offered Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 8:00pm and on Saturday from 7:30 to 10:00am. Gulf/ Senior group can swim up to six days. We recommend a minimum of four days per week.

All practices are held at the New Caney High School Natatorium.
